Pub · Cardiff
Recently reopened and refurbished, this Pontcanna pub has kept the layout of a proper little family restaurant — roomy enough for a pram, comfortable inside, with a handful of tables outside and free parking, though on-street spaces nearby fill up and you'll want to watch for permit bays. Staff are consistently warm and attentive, there's a kids' menu and high chairs, and the food genuinely delivers: the ham hock and the black pudding scotch egg get raved about, the Sunday roasts (sirloin of beef, and a nut roast for veggies) are a highlight, and desserts are worth saving room for. Prices are reasonable for the area. One snag: Sunday tables are allocated 90 minutes, which can feel tight with children in tow, so book and go in knowing the clock is running.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
