The Coconut Island
Lively Sri Lankan spot in Brighton with a kids' menu, high chairs, step-free access and vegan and gluten-free choices.

Restaurants · Brighton
Sri Lankan home cooking in a room built for sharing — and that turns out to suit families better than you'd expect. The high stools at the front put some people off, but there's a big area at the back with standard tables and chairs, which is where you want to be with children; there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and the staff know the food inside out and are happy to steer you. Portions are generous enough that most tables leave with leftovers, and they hand over cardboard containers without being asked. Cashew curry, devil chicken, beef kothu and the hot battered prawns come up again and again, and vegans are properly looked after — pumpkin curry, vegan fried rice, battered mushrooms. It's lively rather than quiet, and worth booking; one parent called it "a must do restaurant in Sussex".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
