Sixty-odd years in the same family's hands shows in the welcome here — you're greeted at the door, checked on mid-meal, and nothing seems to be too much trouble, which matters when you've arrived with a tired toddler in tow. Food is properly home-cooked and comes out hot and together: the fish pie and lasagne both get singled out, and portions are sensibly sized with veg and potatoes shared at the table, plus an offer of more chips if anyone's still hungry. Two mains and two glasses of wine came in under £35, so it's fair value. There are high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access, vegan choices and plenty of free parking, with outdoor seating for warmer days. It does get very busy, so book — regulars call it "a real gem".
