Valentino's
Small, lively Sardinian-Italian in Cardiff with generous portions, warm staff, a kids' menu and high chairs — book ahead.

Pub · Cardiff
A small, central Spoons that fills up fast — smaller than most branches, so lunchtimes get tightly packed and the tables sit close together, which is worth knowing if you're arriving with a pram. There's extra seating upstairs, though it isn't always open until downstairs is heaving, and the toilets are down narrow stairs. What redeems it is the staff: patient and friendly even in a rush, and one family noted they "did well to get around everyone" at a heaving lunch. Order on the app and food comes quickly, which matters when someone's melting down. Kids' menu, high chairs and outdoor seats are all there, and prices are low — a jacket potato with cheese and a drink around £8.50. Breakfasts are hit-and-miss and it could do with a deeper clean, but for a cheap, fuss-free feed in the city centre it does the job.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
