Set in old Nissen huts on the headland above Torpoint, this is a rustic sort of place — concrete floors, no linen, sea views out the doors — and it works well with children because nobody minds a bit of noise. Seating runs inside and out, there's free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, and food comes out of a busy kitchen freshly cooked with local ingredients, including local fish. The sharing boards get the most praise (the veggie scotch egg especially), along with big breakfasts, homemade cakes and puddings. Prices are fair for what arrives. Two honest notes: it's a fair drive out into the country, and it fills up — Sunday roasts and weekend tables book out well ahead, so ring first if you're a group. One parent simply says "we locals love to eat here."

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
