Cafés · Coniston
Right on the shore of Coniston Water, this is the kind of stop where children can throw crumbs to the ducks while you finish a coffee in peace — there were tiny ducklings and boats coming and going the last time we looked. It's clean, roomy and modern inside, with covered outdoor seating that stays warm enough for a cool day, plus high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access, vegan choices and free parking. The homemade cakes get the loudest praise, along with the bacon cobs and scones, and the staff are cheerful with children and dogs alike (there's even a basket of blankets for the dog). Two honest snags: it's the only food place by the lake so prices reflect that, and lunch has taken over half an hour at busy times — order before anyone hits empty.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
