A little outside Bath's centre, this is the kind of place worth the short detour — and free parking right outside makes that easy with children in tow. The terrace looks across to Bath Abbey and is roomy enough for a pram, with comfortable seating inside and out, high chairs, and a kids' menu; vegan dishes are on there too. Weekday lunchtimes are quiet and uncrowded, while Sundays and Friday evenings get lively, so book ahead. Food is genuinely excellent: crunchy fried chicken bites, duck fat hash browns, sharing tomahawk and rib eye steaks, and a peppercorn sauce regulars would happily see bottled. Staff are friendly and attentive without hovering. One honest snag — food can take a while to arrive, so bring something to keep small hands busy.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
