Set out on the A5 between Corwen and Llangollen, this one is worth the detour for the view alone — the decked area and beer garden look straight across the Dee Valley, and it's the kind of outdoor space where children can be a bit noisy without anyone minding. Some of the benches have seen better days. Inside, the bar is tiny, but the dining side is where you want to be, and the staff are genuinely warm and unhurried with families. Food is proper pub cooking, hot and fresh: braised suet pudding, ploughman's, Thai chicken curry, and a Sunday roast people go back for. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, vegan options and free parking, plus buggy access. Prices are about average now. Worth knowing: hand-washing is at an odd shared sink between the toilets, and the A5 hums a little.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
