A big city-centre Wetherspoon that gets properly busy — Saturday lunchtimes and after shows at the Lyceum it fills up fast — but head upstairs and it's noticeably quieter, which is the trick if you've got a toddler who doesn't cope with crowds. Food comes out quickly, which matters when someone's hungry and cross, and it's cheap: jacket potatoes loaded with chilli and cheese, the crunchy chicken strip burger, decent salads. High chairs, a kids' menu, step-free access for the pram and a few outdoor tables. The staff draw genuine praise for being warm and accommodating, though on busy weekends there simply aren't enough of them and waits stretch. It's not the prettiest Spoons on the map, portions on some burgers underwhelm, and the loos can be hit and miss.
