Perched right on the sand at Friars Cliff, this is the kind of place where you can park the pram beside a bench, let the kids wriggle, and eat with the sea in front of you. Most of the seating is outdoors — there are only a few tables inside — so it's a fair-weather choice, and it does get hectic on sunny bank holidays. Even then the queue moves; there are plenty of staff and food lands quickly, which matters when someone's hungry and cross. The breakfast runs until 3pm, and people rave about the tuna melt toastie, the crab sandwich, the nachos and enormous Mr Whippy cones with a flake. Cheaper and quieter than the café further along the beach. Parking nearby is by RingGo. High chairs and a kids' menu, and lots of dogs about.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
