The Art School Cellars
A Liverpool bar with outdoor seating and an early 4.8 rating, easygoing for a family catch-up.

Fine dining that welcomes children is rare, and this understated place down a Liverpool side street manages it — high chairs, buggy access, a children's menu and vegan options, in a room people describe as beautiful, with crockery made specially for the restaurant. Staff are warm and attentive from the moment you arrive; more than one nervous first-timer has ended up booking again for a birthday. The cheese soufflé, guinea fowl, venison and lamb all draw praise, and the trio of signature desserts is worth saving room for. Mocktails are inventive, which helps if you're driving. Two honest caveats: portions on the prix fixe can run small, and a few have found the sauces over-salty. It's a proper occasion-priced treat — £55 for the fixed menu, well over £100 for the tasting — and you'll want to book.
