A set-menu spot in the middle of Bude that's more grown-up than the usual seaside cafe, but it does look after families — high chairs, a kids' menu, and a terrace that's easier with a pram than the tighter inside room. Cooking is genuinely good: scallops get mentioned again and again, the monkfish is the kind that melts, and the roast potatoes and slaw turn up in praise more than sides usually do. Vegetarians and vegans are unusually well served, with the kitchen happy to adapt most dishes and even a vegan carrot cake to take away. The staff are chatty and patient, and free parking helps. Two snags worth knowing: it's a set menu with limited choice, and it isn't cheap — one visitor cheerfully called it "expensive" and went back anyway. Book ahead, especially for evenings.
