Tucked by the water just outside Glasgow, this is the kind of tearoom that rewards a bit of planning — book ahead, because turning up at peak times can mean a wait or a table that never materialises. Inside it's spotless and warm, with a log burner to sit near on a wet day, room for a buggy, high chairs and a kids' menu. Staff are attentive and quick to make a fuss of everyone who walks in, dogs included (there's a dog menu and pup cups). Food arrives fast — under fifteen minutes at lunch — and it's genuinely good: chicken and rice soup, paninis with chilli jam and mozzarella, a lentil soup that comes with the afternoon tea, and cakes people still talk about. Prices are fair for the quality. The lochside view can be obscured by summer foliage.
