Tucked just behind New Street Station, this is a properly old-school curry house — running since 1962 — and it turns out to be an easy one with children in tow. It's cosy rather than cavernous, so a pram may need parking thoughtfully, but there are high chairs, a kids' menu and plenty of vegan choices. The team are warm and unhurried; they'll adjust spice levels down for smaller palates, and they've been known to feed people arriving near closing without rushing them. Food comes quickly even when the room is busy. The saag paneer and a light daal both get singled out, portions are generous, and prices are reasonable for the city centre. Two snags worth knowing: there's just one toilet shared between everyone, which pinches when it's full, and a £3 service charge lands on the bill.
