Booking is the thing to sort first — this is a small place in the middle of Wadebridge and it fills up fast, though several families have got in on a last-minute cancellation after leaving a number, and the team do ring back. Once you're in, it's warm and easygoing rather than hushed: high chairs, a kids' menu, vegan options and free parking, and staff who greet you properly at the door. The cooking is the draw — local produce, plates that arrive looking lovely, with the lamb, the chicken kiev, crab on toast and the scallop starter all singing. Three courses have come in around £35. It's a snug room, so a bulky pram may be awkward and it hums when full, but for a proper meal out with older children it's hard to beat.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
