Italian · Southampton
A cosy, low-lit Italian near the Mayflower, this is a place families tend to book rather than chance — it's small and intimate, and pre-theatre evenings fill up fast. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and there are a few outdoor tables when the weather plays along. The music stays soft and the lighting gentle, which suits children who wilt in noisy rooms. Seafood risotto, mussels, hake and the seafood pasta come up again and again, the ciabatta with pesto arrives warm and soft, and the tiramisu has a real following. Portions are generous. Be straight with yourself about the bill, though — starters and pasta are priced at the upper end, and one family reckoned around £50 a head without wine. Service is usually warm, occasionally brisk on a busy night.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
