Gastropub · Newquay
Tucked down a narrow Cornish lane with passing places — drive carefully — this old countryside pub rewards the effort with parking so plentiful there's overflow beyond the overflow, which tells you how busy it gets. Inside it's beautifully kept and, remarkably for somewhere this popular, quiet enough to hold a conversation across the table. Food arrives promptly, which matters when someone's patience is running out, and the staff are unflappably calm even with a big, boisterous group in. The Sunday roast draws real praise, as do the seafood chowder, fish pie and burgers, plus a specials board that changes constantly. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and vegan options, and dogs are welcome with a dog-free area if you'd rather. Book ahead in season — the outdoor tent is the fallback, and it can be chilly.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
