Where it earns its keep with children is the free board games stacked up ready to play, table service on drinks, and staff who are genuinely welcoming (dogs included). The ale and cider range is the real draw — six real ciders on at once isn't unusual, and the beer is kept beautifully. Weekday afternoons are quiet and easy; evenings bring live music and open mic nights, and one visitor found the background music loud enough that you had to shout, so time it earlier with little ones.
