The Back of Beyond - JD Wetherspoon
Budget-friendly Reading pub with a kids' menu, high chairs, step-free buggy access and outdoor seating.

Bright, busy and cheap, this Indian street food spot pulls families in for chaat, and the buggy fits through the door. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and plenty of vegan options, which makes it an easy call if one of yours won't touch meat. The sev puri, papdi chaat and mutter paneer with paratha come loaded with flavour and texture, and the spiced toasties are properly satisfying — food is fresh and good quality. The staff guide you patiently through the menu and swap things out when a dish is off. Worth knowing: it's tiny on staff at peak times, so a busy 7pm sitting can mean a slow wait for food and drinks — go earlier or off-peak with hungry children. One parent found the team "friendly but understaffed" on a packed evening. Eat in rather than order out.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
