Cafés · Newcaslte
Tucked in the heart of Newcastle, County Down, this is the sort of café that rescues a family day out — one group ducked in from a heavy rainstorm and got the kids dried off, warmed up and fed without ever feeling hurried along. It's warm, cosy and genuinely welcoming, with buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu, outdoor seating and free parking. The Irish breakfast with soda bread and potato cakes gets real praise, the coffee is taken seriously, and the caramel squares and rocky road are worth ordering even if nobody asked. Two honest snags: it gets very busy, so service can slow right down at peak times — 30 minutes for poached eggs on a Sunday isn't unheard of — and the toilets are upstairs, which is awkward with a pram.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
