Punjabi cooking in Shirley that's worth the noise — and it does get noisy, especially at weekends when the place fills up, so book ahead and aim for an off-peak slot if you've got a child who wilts in a din. The room is bright and colourful, with textiles set into the ceiling that give little ones something to look at, and there's free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu. Start with the chaats and samosas; the peshwari naan with cherries is the thing people talk about, and the tandoori dishes arrive sizzling, which is entertainment in itself. Lunchtime thalis and wraps are quick and cheap if you're just popping in. Staff are run off their feet but stay warm with it. One caveat: coriander is everywhere, and the pricier set menus don't always land as well as the à la carte.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
