A road-trip stop that earns its reputation on breakfast — the Full English comes small, medium or large, with black pudding on the side, and it arrives hot, generous and fast, which matters when someone in the back seat has run out of patience. Sunday lunch is the other draw: homemade Yorkshire puddings, slow-cooked beef, a tin of cauliflower cheese and a jug of extra gravy, around £12 for two courses. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, and a large car park at the side, though it's a bit rough underfoot with a pram. The dining room is an oldish conservatory — properly greasy-spoon rather than smart, and looking a little tired — and it gets busy. The small toilet at the back has a baby changing mat. Gluten-free options are handled well, and there's outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
