Tucked away on the north side of Northallerton, this is the kind of stop where the walk between the café, the farm shop and the little gift shop across the yard becomes half the outing — useful when children need to move between courses. The café is bright and airy with a large free car park, buggy access throughout and high chairs, plus a kids' menu and vegan options, and there's outdoor seating and a veg stall to wander to. Food is cooked fresh to order: the beef stew, the savoury scone meal and bacon from the on-site butchers all get singled out, and portions are generous. Cakes and scones are worth staying for. It is a bit pricier than a standard café, and it can fill up — one family arrived to no seats in the main room and were moved to the reading room.
