You'll want to come early — the kitchen has been known to run out of food well before closing, and a hungry toddler won't wait. Get there in daylight, though, and you're sitting almost under the Forth rail bridge, which does a lot of the entertaining for you while food arrives. It's a small room rather than a sprawling one, so a pram may be a squeeze at busy times, but there are high chairs, a children's menu, outdoor tables by the water and free parking. Seafood is the thing here: mussels in white wine and garlic cream, tiger prawns, oysters, alongside a steak burger and pizzas that get just as much praise. The truffle and cheese fries disappear fast with children. It's not cheap, and one family found a voucher deal came with a much-reduced menu — worth checking what's actually being served before you commit.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
