Walkers coming along the estuary from Hessle tend to end up here, and it works just as well as a stop with children in tow — free parking, level buggy access, and plenty of undercover outdoor seating alongside the open tables and an indoor room for when the weather turns. There's a play park outside, weather permitting, and it's a short stroll down to the River Humber for bridge views. The kitchen stays quick even when it's heaving, which it often is between 11 and 12 at weekends, and the staff are cheerful with a full pram-and-toddler crew. Bacon sandwiches in brioche buns get the loudest praise, along with the cheese toastie, the all-day breakfast and the home-baked cakes, much of it gluten-free. Dogs welcome too. Shade outside disappears fast on sunny days, so arrive early if that matters.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
