Right on the River Don in Kelham Island, this one earns its keep with space — a big room inside, plenty of tables out by the water, and buggy access that doesn't involve wrestling through a crowd. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, along with vegan options and free parking, though street spaces nearby fill up fast at weekends. Food tends to arrive quickly — around ten minutes on a good day — and portions are genuinely big; the burger and the roast belly pork and stuffing sandwich come in for particular praise, as do the nduja sausage rolls and a proper range of cask beers. Sunday roasts are the one thing that divides people: some call them fabulous, others felt short-changed at £17.50. Staff are consistently warm, dogs are welcome, and one visitor called it simply "a chilled evening out". Worth booking for Sundays.
