A carvery is the reason most families make the trip out here, and it holds up — hot, fresh, with a choice of gammon, turkey or beef and a proper spread of vegetables. What makes it work with children is the play area in sight of the tables, so you can actually finish a plate while they burn off energy nearby. The dining rooms are large and split into separate sections, which helps with pram room and noise, and there are high chairs, a kids' menu and free parking. Puddings are the other draw — cake slices one family found enormous and good value, plus takeaway boxes. Worth knowing: the rest of the menu is fairly ordinary pub food and portions can be small, and on busy days high chairs or kids' menus have needed chasing, so ask on arrival.
