Attached to the Hilton Garden Inn, this is a handy fallback rather than a destination — but it does cover the family basics: high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and outdoor seating, with room to park a pram indoors. Staff come up again and again as friendly and polite, and afternoon tea here goes down well. The breakfast buffet is the reliable win, with good bacon and sausages, and among the mains people rate the pepperoni pizza, steak and chips, and the chicken thighs and rice. Be honest with yourself about dinner, though: portions can be small for the money, drinks are steep at nearly £18 for two pints, and service charge gets added without much warning. Kitchen timings swing, so ask about waits if a child is fraying. The bright lighting keeps it awake rather than cosy.
