Cafés · Rochester
Set beside the lakes at a former quarry reserve near Cliffe, this is a proper day out rather than just a stop for coffee — you park free at the end of a steep gravel track and the café sits right opposite, with the water and birdlife through the windows. Inside it's small and quirkily decorated, so it suits a buggy better on a quiet weekday, and there's a box of toys that keeps toddlers busy while you eat. The vegan and gluten-free choice is genuinely wide, portions are generous, and people rave about the Turkish breakfast, the smoked salmon, the smoothies and the cakes baked on site. Staff are warm and used to children. Service has wobbled through a change of management, and the reserve bans bikes, so leave scooters in the car.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
