Tucked down a narrow city-centre lane you'd never wander along by accident, this is a small room — exposed brick, timber beams, dried flowers, soft lighting — with limited seating, so book well ahead and don't expect to squeeze a pram in beside you. It suits an older child or a special family lunch more than a restless toddler, though there's a kids' menu and high chairs. The kitchen works in seasonal small plates, three or so per person: honeyed parsnips, venison, a Barnsley chop with wild garlic salsa verde, soda bread worth ordering twice. Sunday lunch is generous and arrives promptly. Staff are knowledgeable and unhurried, and genuinely good with allergies — one family with dairy and egg intolerances had a separate menu printed for them. Portions are good value at ££, and there's a decent 0% and mocktail list.
