Old Bell Inn
A classic two-floor Edinburgh pub with local beers, updated bar meals and outdoor seating for easygoing family visits.

Tucked away from the city centre in a spot the locals have claimed, this is a curry house that rewards a family outing — the Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired decor gives it a proper grown-up feel, while high chairs, buggy access and a kids' menu mean you're not apologising for turning up with children. The staff know the menu inside out, particularly which dishes are genuinely vegan, and they're chatty and quick without rushing you. Naans arrive freshly cooked and piping hot; the lamb pasanda, chicken jalfrezi and the assorted kebabs get mentioned again and again, as do the dips with the poppadoms. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Worth noting it's a small room, it gets busy, and things wind down fairly promptly near closing — an earlier table suits younger children better anyway.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
