Set inside Holme for Gardens, this is a rare café where a fidgety toddler is genuinely an asset — the big pond out front is stocked with enormous koi, and children can watch (and help feed) them for ages while you finish a coffee. Seating runs to indoor, semi-indoor and garden tables, so there's room for a pram and somewhere cooler to sit when it's heaving, which it does on Sunday lunchtimes. Staff stay cheerful under pressure and food comes out fast. The Dorset apple cake gets the loudest praise, and there's a proper vegan breakfast alongside the full English; watch for 2-for-1 breakfast offers. Free parking is plentiful. It isn't the cheapest, and scones arrive unwarmed, but families call the setting "very peaceful".
