Marina views and a kids' menu don't usually turn up together, but this one manages both. Prams are a non-issue — one parent arriving with a friend and two babies was seated with plenty of room for both buggies, and there's free parking plus buggy access to save the wrestle at the door. Staff are chatty and unflustered; food comes out fast even when it's busy, with one table served twelve minutes after ordering on a full evening. The cooking is a step above the usual family lunch: venison haunch and crème brûlée off the specials, a properly good full English, vegan options and high chairs as standard. Outdoor tables and a dome extend the space in summer. It isn't cheap — reckon around £50 a head for three courses and drinks — and large tables are worth booking.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
