The Boathouse Restaurant & Shop
Step-free Dumfries spot with high chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor seating — lively, so noisy toddlers blend in.

Restaurant · Dumfries
A riverside spot in Glencaple that families come back to again and again — several here are on their fifth or sixth visit. The dining room is bright, spotless and looks out over the water, and there's outdoor seating for warmer days, free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu. Portions are generous and prices reasonable: the steak pie, haggis bonbons, pâté and the salmon with prawns and dill sauce all get singled out. Staff are usually plenty in number, polite and quick to seat you even on a busy Sunday. Worth knowing: it fills up, so book — and a few people have waited a long while for mains at peak Sunday lunch, or found roasts sold out by early evening. One family calls it "our go-to place for a relaxing break".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
