Sitting up at Hill Top with views down to the Tees at Eggleston, this is a traditional inn where the Sunday roast is the reason to come — beef and lamb from the family's own herd, generous portions, fresh veg, and Yorkshire puddings big enough that families regularly find they've over-ordered on sides. Two courses around £15 makes it manageable with children in tow, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and free parking outside. Puddings get real praise, particularly the sticky toffee and the bread and butter. The staff are patient and accommodating — one group phoning ahead late in the evening found the kitchen happy to wait for them. It's a proper pub with locals at the bar rather than a soft-play barn, and Sundays fill up, so book ahead.
