A French bistro tucked behind a plain shopfront in Hove, this one rewards going in — the covered courtyard garden at the back has heaters across the roof and low classical music, so it works with children in winter as well as summer, and buggies get in without a fuss. The menu is long enough that fussy eaters and vegans are both sorted, alongside a kids' menu and high chairs, and portions are generous: fish and chips, lamb shank with properly balanced gravy, carbonara, and a Sunday roast served as late as 5.30pm. Prices are reasonable and you can bring your own wine for a few pounds' corkage. Free parking helps. Two honest snags: it's small, so book ahead, and one person sometimes runs the whole floor, which can slow things down.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
