A former motorway stop turned proper destination, this one rewards a detour off the road. Ordering works well with children: you pick a table, choose at the counter, and the team keeps a tab open so you can add puddings and drinks later without wrangling everyone back up. Food comes out quickly and portions are generous — the loaded pulled pork chips easily feed two, and the burgers get genuinely rapturous praise, alongside pancake stacks at breakfast, a fresh vegetable broth and a plum and apple crumble one visitor called "Christmas in a bowl". Save room for the chocolate orange cake with warm sauce. High chairs, a kids' menu and free parking help, and there's a lovely outdoor space for warm days. Note the cafe entrance sits at the far end, facing the disabled car park.
