There's proper room to spread out here — a big, handsome building with a garden and free parking, and enough space that a pram isn't a problem. The dining area sits apart from the pub itself, which helps on busy evenings, and there are high chairs and a children's menu that families rate as highly as the adult one. Duck comes up again and again, and the pepperoni pizza and chips lands fresh and well cooked. A wooden chimney makes the whole place feel cosy over coffee afterwards. Two honest notes: it's expensive for what it is — around £7 a pint, and portions don't always match the price — and weekends get crowded and loud. Midweek is a different animal, calm and warm. Dogs are welcome too. Worth booking if you're bringing a group.
