Smugglers Restaurant
A 16th-century Pevensey pub with a kids' menu, high chairs and outdoor seating — an easy, welcoming choice for a family meal.

A few minutes from the beach, this Mediterranean bistro has become a proper weekend habit for families staying at Pevensey Bay — outdoor seating that catches the sunset, buggy access, high chairs and free parking, so arriving with a pram and a hungry toddler isn't a production. The Sunday roasts are the thing people come back for: chicken, pork, turkey or lamb, enormous portions, good value, and the lamb in particular gets rapturous write-ups. Fish and chips off the lunch menu runs around a tenner, though food can take a good twenty minutes at busy times, so order something to keep small hands occupied. Staff are attentive and genuinely warm with children — one family had help settling their son so both parents could eat. The pizzas are the weak spot, and set menus on occasions like Valentine's push the price up. Worth booking for bigger tables.
