Don't judge this one from the pavement — the outside gives nothing away, and plenty of families admit they hesitated before going in. Inside it's a small, cheerful café with high chairs, a kids' menu and free parking right there, which takes the stress out of arriving with a pram and a hungry toddler. Portions are enormous for the price: paninis and soup on fresh-baked bread, a proper Scottish breakfast where you pick five items, haggis with cheese and peppercorn that people talk about for weeks, and a counter of traybakes for afterwards. The pancakes have a following of their own. Staff are warm and chatty with children. It's genuinely wee, though, and gets busy toward the end of the week with takeaway orders, so food can be slow when the kitchen's under pressure — go early or on a quieter morning.
