A short walk from the market square, this is a proper sit-down fish and chip place rather than a counter with a few stools — buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and the staff are the sort who make a fuss of children without hovering. Everything's cooked to order, so budget 15–20 minutes; worth knowing if you've got a hungry toddler, though the seafood is genuinely fresh and the batter light and crisp. The smashed peas get raved about, as do the salt and pepper squid, the local Jessie Smiths sausages and the cod bites. Portions are generous. It's not cheap for chips — some parents have found the prices steep for what arrives — and it fills up, so a quieter table is easier at off-peak times. There are outside tables at the front if you'd rather take away and let them watch the world go by.
