Booking ahead is worth it here — it fills up even midweek, and the dining room hums rather than roars, so you can still hear each other across the table. Buggies get in without a fight, high chairs are there, and there's a kids' menu alongside a long list of curries, vegan dishes and made-to-order alterations, which matters when one child will only eat something mild and plain. The staff are unhurried about helping you choose and happy to adjust heat levels. The poppadom accompaniments get particular praise, the madras is judged well rather than punishing, and the lunchtime loaded chips have a small following of their own. Worth knowing: the sit-in menu is noticeably pricier than the takeaway one, so a family bill can climb faster than you'd expect after a day at the beach.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
