Café · Barnsley
A proper local café in Monk Bretton where the welcome does a lot of the work — the staff greet you like you've sat down at a relative's table, and there's a sign on the door about entering a stranger and leaving a friend. It's cheap in the way parents notice: around £8 for a full English and a drink, with a decent sausage rather than the sad kind. Buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu, vegan and healthier options, plus free parking and a few outdoor tables. The cheesecake gets talked about, and bacon sandwiches come out fast even when it's heaving. The honest snag: it's small and gets very busy, sometimes with tables reserved, so mornings can mean waiting or squeezing in. One parent calls the whole thing "brilliant little local cafe" — and that's about right.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
