The Excelsior
A well-rated Liverpool pub at a mid-range price, an easy spot to pop into with the family for a drink and a bite.

Café · Liverpool
Tucked a minute from the city centre, this is a small, quirky café where the welcome does a lot of the heavy lifting — the staff are quick, kind, and genuinely unflappable, and one family who accidentally ordered something containing an allergen were handled with real care rather than fuss. It's a compact space, so a pram takes some manoeuvring at busy times, though there's buggy access, high chairs and a few outdoor tables when it's warm. The pancakes are the thing people come back for, light and fluffy, alongside homestyle beans on toast, the vegan sausage toastie and excellent coffee — and the piña colada cake if it's on. Prices are gentle, dietary needs are properly catered for, and there's a quiet little area at the back. Weekday mornings are calm; the merch is pricier than the food.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
