Cafés · Newark
A proper old-fashioned roadside café on the edge of Newark, with a big free car park that's usually full of cars, bikes and trucks — a good sign, and easy enough to pull in with a pram and unload without a fight. Inside it's clean, tidy and roomy, with plenty of tables, though Saturday lunchtime can mean a short wait. The staff are friendly and quick, which matters when someone's hungry; the chef has been known to hand out a lollipop to children who clear their plate. Breakfasts are the draw — big, well-priced, lots of choice — and the Sunday roast gets real affection, "like mum used to make". Eggs Benedict is a favourite too. There's outdoor seating, a fountain and squirrels to look at afterwards. The till-screen menu changes as you read it, which is faintly maddening; food quality can wobble on a busy morning.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
