Tucked in Lincoln's old town, this is a roomy, calm sort of place — spacious enough that a pram isn't a problem, with high chairs, a kids' menu and a few outdoor tables when the weather plays along. Worth knowing most of the seating is upstairs, with a handful of tables downstairs as you come in, so ask when you book. The staff are the thing people mention most: warm, quick, unfazed even when the room fills with big bookings. Food is properly good rather than fussy — the signature pork belly with mash and a generous pile of veg, the in-house cured salmon, duck cooked just right, sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset. Portions can run small à la carte, so the set menu (around £25 for two courses) is the better-value bet. Vegan options too. Booking is wise at weekends.
