The Traders Tavern
Old-school Cardiff pub with an all-day cooked breakfast, high chairs and summer outdoor seating — quiet on weekdays, packed on match days.

Handy if you're heading to a show at the Utilita Arena, but it works just as well as a meal on its own — and the early sitting means you skip the worst of the crowds and queues. The room is large, so there's room for a pram between tables and no one will notice a bit of noise; high chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the vegan and veggie dishes are proper cooking rather than an afterthought. Portions are generous and food comes out fast and piping hot: the beer-battered cod and chips, the garlic mushrooms and the brownie with raspberry sorbet all get singled out. Staff are attentive without hovering. Worth knowing it's £35 for two courses and drinks are dear, and one parent found the big room "lacking atmosphere" on a quiet night.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
