Italian · Edinburgh
Fresh pasta is the reason to come — the carbonara gets singled out again and again as properly Italian, and the gnocchi, ragù and tiramisu hold up too. One family who've eaten Italian all over said it's the closest thing to sitting down in Venice. It's a family-run place and that shows in the cooking. Practically, there are high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and a few outdoor tables, and food generally arrives fast and piping hot — though on busier evenings service can drag, so it's worth going in with snacks. Book ahead: people do get turned away, and a fifteen-minute wait outside isn't unusual. Not everything lands every time — the pizzas draw more mixed comments than the pasta — but at ££ for cooking this good, most families leave happy.
