Chinatown yum cha done properly — trolleys of Hong Kong-style dim sum, big shareable plates that arrive hot on hot plates, and a set menu that families say leaves plenty left over. Food comes out fast, which matters when someone small has hit the wall, and the staff are used to big mixed-age tables and get on with it kindly. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, and the air conditioning keeps it comfortable in summer. It's often busy, especially weekends and holidays, so go early or expect a wait, and the chairs are firm rather than cosy for a long sit. Bring cash — card isn't always an option — and check your bill, as one visitor was charged for tap water. Prices are fair for the quantity; the soup and the dim sum are what people come back for.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
