Vegetarians can order a proper full English here — the plant-based bacon and sausages hold their own — and there's a Desi breakfast alongside it: parathas, masala omelette, chickpeas and mint chutney, generous enough for two to share and not too spicy for smaller mouths. It's a big, roomy room with plenty of tables, so a pram isn't a problem, plus a covered terrace, high chairs and a kids' menu. Prices are gentle: around £8 for a full English and a coffee. Service is quick and the family running it will happily tweak an order for a fussy eater. Pay-and-display parking sits round the corner at about £1 an hour. The chai latte with its cinnamon is worth a try; the Belgian hot chocolate can taste powdery. One parent found the atmosphere "peaceful and comfortable".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
